You've probably heard of takoyaki, a wheat flour-based batter cooked with octopus bits, but have you heard of Taiyaki? Taiyaki is a fish-shaped bread that can get filled with red bean paste. This variation has the Taiyaki replace what would be the ice cream cone on soft serve. It's filled with things like red bean paste and can get topped with a wide range of toppings. Uji Time Dessert is one of the only places in the city that serves this beautiful dessert.

The Taiyaki Cone texture is close to one of an egg puff waffle. Egg puff waffle is a dessert originating from Hong Kong. It has bubble-like puffs of fluffy & chewy dough. The texture is in between a mochi & a pancake, and the flavor is slightly sweet.

The Black Sesame Soft Cream is soft-serve ice cream with a slight texture from the black sesame seeds. It is simple yet rich and sweet.


The Red Bean Filling is slightly chunky and sweet. It pairs perfectly with the Taiyaki Cone.


Topping Recommendations


Dango, are Japanese rice-based dumplings that are unfilled and served on a skewer, similar to mochi and Tang Yuan, a Chinese rice-based dumpling filled with things like black sesame or peanuts.

Pocky, Japanese biscuit sticks with a thin coating of different flavors. At Uji Time Dessert, the Pocky is matcha flavored.


Rice Pearls, which are small pearls of puffed rice. They are similar to Rice Krispy cereal.


Uji Time Dessert is a unique cafe that makes art in the East mall of Japantown. Their Taiyaki is not the only thing on their menu that is phenomenal, everything on it is delicious.
